Oils on Board. 24" x 36" Work in Progress.
Ares was begun after getting together with some friends for a painting party. A fellow artist/friend of mine was working on a painting depicting his interpretation of the God of War, Ares. While a very talented soul, I disagreed with him on the "rendering" of the mythological figure. So in answer, I picked up my brushes and began working on my own vision. While my version uses more of a "gothic" color scheme and interpretation of his rainments, I feel Ares is headed in the right direction, and certainly moreso of how I would picture him. Ares is also a departure in subject matter, as I tend to paint mostly women. In it's current state, Ares needs several more coats of paint, where the bare flesh is showing. At this time, in the red portions, several shades of reds, oranges, and yellows have been overlayed on the b&w underpainting. These layers are not final, as more will be applied to accentuate shadow elements and push highlight areas..
