Obedient

Obedient always seems to recieve much love from viewers. My inspiration for this piece is twofold. First and foremost is my love for painting backs. I think that they are my favorite part of the human anatomy to portray. I completely enjoyed all of the hours spent on the shades of grey for the muscle. Secondly, I love the mystery of not know what the angel's face looks like. Many people have expressed their desire to see her turn around, so they can see her face. I think that it is part of the delight in this painting that you will never get to see exactly what she looks like. Obedient is also my husband's favorite painting out of my work to date. He's in love with the colors and the figure, and I certainly can't fault him for having good taste. For this piece I abandoned my usual use of Blue Black and Payne's Grey oils. Instead, I chose a more green/grey color scheme. The greys are created out of Davy's Grey, which seems to cut differently than Charcoal or Payne's Grey. Additionaly I used several layers of Transparent Yellow with Olive Green throughout this piece.
