Patience

Oils on Board. 18" x 24" Work in Progress

Patience is a juxstaposition piece for me. I wanted to combine elements of serenity with constrictive and agitating devices. The subject matter for this painting is similar to the Saint, as this is a bald female figure adorned with armor and barbed wire. For this figure it was paramount to show a placid, accepting nature inspite of trivial biting elements, or constrictive circumstances (represented by the figure's adornment). The angelic subject matter reminds us that Patience is a virtue, something that supernatural creatures exhibit and exude for us to learn by. The more I work on this painting the more I begin to enjoy dramatic lighting and how it can create drama outside of the immediate subject. For this painting I have used numerous layers of color for the background. I feel that it is headed in the right direction, but needs a few more layers of color to really push it's depth and lighting. Additionally, I should thank my husband who pointed out a perspective/anatomical fix that needed to happen where the angel's front breast is concerned. He was right, and at the new angle it looks much more plausible with the figure.
