Seraphim

Oils & Acrylic on Bristol Board 9" x 12" For Sale $350

Seraphim is an experimental piece for me. I wanted to combine two types of paint and reap the benefits of both medium. Initially I painted the background with acrylics and pounced the layers of colors together. The drying time of the acrylics was marginal and I was able to go straight onto the main figure of the piece and begin working in oils. Oils drying on Bristol Board can take a longer than usual amount of time if they are applied thickly. I was inspired to create this piece based off of a conversation with family members over the Passover dinner table. It was brought to my attention that the Seraphim were described as having three sets of wings, one of which exist on their head. I thought this would be an intersting challenge to render, and removed the ears altogether of the figure. In their place are the wings, and a gaussian treatment of fabric which is wrapped about the head of the angel. I will be adding more layers of color to emphasize the translucent fabric about her head and neck, define the wings further, and finish off the headress crown.
